Fire at Winnipeg Mint contained

    WINNIPEG, Sept. 1 /CNW Telbec/ - A fire at the Royal Canadian Mint
facility in Winnipeg occurred at 2:30 a.m. on September 1, 2007. All employees
were safely evacuated from the building and there were no injuries.
    The fire began in a section of one of the Mint's plating production
lines, where coin blanks are manufactured.
    That particular production line has been shut down as the Mint continues
to work with the Winnipeg Fire Department to assess the cause of the fire and
the extent of the damage.
    Normal production has resumed at the Mint in all non-effected areas,
including public tours.
