Finalists for 22nd Annual Trillium Book Award announced

    Ontario Authors short-listed for Ontario's Prestigious Literary Prize

    Six English books and five French have been short-listed for the 22nd
Annual Trillium Book Award/ 22e édition du Prix littéraire annuel Trillium,
the Ontario government's prestigious award for literature.

    On June 15, 2009 the public are invited to join in the celebration of the
finalists of this year's 22nd Trillium Book Award with authors' readings
followed by a reception. The event will be held in the Brigantine Room, York
Quay Centre, 235 Queen's Quay West, in association with Author Readings at
Harbourfront Centre. On June 16, 2009, the Honourable Aileen Carroll, Ontario
Minister of Culture, will announce the winners in Toronto at a luncheon at the
Park Hyatt.

    -   The Trillium Book Award/Prix Trillium encourages excellence in
        literature through its significant investment in Ontario-based
        writers. Award recipients for both English and French works receive
        $20,000. Their respective publishers also receive $2,500 to promote
        the winning titles. All finalists receive a $500 honorarium.

    -   Three titles are short-listed for the Trillium Book Award for Poetry
        in English language, which recognizes literary achievement for a
        first, second or third published work of poetry. Three titles have
        also been short-listed for the Trillium Book Award for Children's
        Literature in French language, which is awarded in alternating years
        with the Trillium Book Award for Poetry in French language. The
        winner for each of these awards receives $10,000 and their publisher
        $2,000 for promotion of the titles. Finalists for these awards also
        receive a $500 honorarium.


    The Ontario government established the Trillium Book Award
( in 1987 to recognize excellence, support
marketing and foster increased public awareness of the quality and diversity
of Ontario writers and writing.
