LAVAL, QC, Aug. 13 /CNW Telbec/ - For the ninth year in a row, Laval
residents are invited to take part in the Fête de la famille on August 31 at
the Centre de la nature. This year's theme is Du plaisir à partager! (sharing
the pleasure). This annual tradition will give children, teens, parents and
grandparents a chance to enjoy a day of family festivities with a wide range
of outdoor activities.
From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Centre de la nature will present a host of
activities that will appeal to young and old alike. Among this year's
headliners are the pop group Tricot Machine and Arthur l'aventurier, who will
entertain 3- to 10-year-olds with his show "D'un océan à l'autre."
World music, circus arts, outdoor games and comedy will be featured.
Musicians will perform gypsy, Brazilian and African music on the Big Top
stage, and clowns, acrobats, actors and burlesque artists will perform on the
Hydro-Québec stage. As well, a giant corn roast will be held on the IGA
Teens aged 10 to 17 will also find plenty to do: they can try their hand
at the video game Rock Band, on a giant screen, and Dance Dance Revolution.
They'll also be able to try wall climbing and skateboarding. Throughout these
activities, two expert graffiti artists will demonstrate their creativity on a
mural to the sounds of music presented by a guest DJ.
Of course, the activities that have made the Fête de la famille such a
success since its inception, such as the giant inflatables, face-painting for
the kids, a tour of the farm and tropical greenhouse, pony rides and canoe,
kayak and rabaska trips, will all be available again this year.
"Since it was created in 2000, Laval's Fête de la famille has brought
together Laval residents from all backgrounds, all ages and all
neighbourhoods, in a festive family atmosphere. This day of festivities has
something that will appeal to everyone," said Gilles Vaillancourt, mayor of
Laval. "I invite our residents to bring along friends and neighbours from
nearby municipalities to enjoy this festival, which has become something of a
Labour Day weekend tradition," he added.
This year's Fête de la famille will have a distinctly green hue,
featuring many recyclable or compostable products available to visitors. As
well, waste generated during the event will be recycled or composted. The
event will also provide the city of Laval with an opportunity to make people
more aware of environmentally responsible practices.
All activities are free, and parking lot at the Centre de la nature will
also be free for Laval residents who have an Avantage Laval card. Families are
nonetheless encouraged to use public transit and take advantage of the family
rates offered on weekends by the Société de transport de Laval. To get to the
Centre de la nature, an adult paying regular fare can bring along up to three
children, aged 11 or under, free of charge.
The Fête de la famille is presented by the Ville de Laval, in association
with Rythme FM 105,7, Hydro-Québec, IGA and Courrier Laval.
