Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) chooses new president, table officers - new president is Winnipeg councillor Gord Steeves

    CALGARY, June 3 /CNW Telbec/ - Winnipeg Councillor Gord Steeves was today
acclaimed President of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) by
municipal government delegates attending the 70th Annual Conference in
Calgary, Alta.
    Since his election to Winnipeg City Council in November 2000, Councillor
Gord Steeves has established himself as a leader at city hall and one of the
city's most active councillors. His responsibilities include serving as Acting
Deputy Mayor, Chair of the Protection and Community Services Committee, Chair
of the Mayor's Environmental Advisory Committee and member of the mayor's
Executive Policy Committee.
    Councillor Steeves is joined on the FCM Executive Committee by First
Vice-President, Mayor Jean Perrault of Sherbrooke, Quebec; Second
Vice-President, Mayor Basil Stewart of Summerside P.E.I.; and Third
Vice-President, Director Hans Cunningham of the District of Kootenay, B.C.
    The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) has been the national
voice of municipal governments since 1901.
