Feast of Fields - Annual Event Offers Intimate View of Organics

HILLSBURGH, ON, Aug. 5 /CNW/ - The 19th Annual Feast of Fields Event
transports people out of the grocery store and into the fields where organic
food is actually produced to create a unique, gourmet experience.
    On Sunday, September 7, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Everdale
Organic Farm and Environmental Learning Centre near Hillsburgh, Ontario will
open their farm gates to hundreds of guests who can partake in an authentic
organic feast prepared by acclaimed local chefs, vintners and brewers in a
lush, pastoral setting. At 3:00 p.m., a special key note address will be given
by renowned Chef Michael Stadtlander. Tickets for the event are $100 and now
available by calling 905-859-3609 or by visiting www.feastoffields.org. In
keeping with the theme of environmental responsibility, guests who carpool
with at least four people to the event will receive a $25/car voucher.
Guests attending Feast of Fields can extend their knowledge of organic
food by leisurely wandering through pastures and talking with local farmers,
celebrity chefs, vintners and brewers committed to producing and preparing
organic food. Famed chefs like Roberto Fracchioni of the Millcroft Inn,
Christopher Ennew of St. Anne's Inn & Spa and organic producers like Cynthia
Beretta of Beretta Organic Farms will eagerly share their delicacies along
with their passion for organics with event patrons.
Organic and local food guru, Chef Michael Stadtlander, will be giving
this year's key note address. Haisai (meaning, 'sincere greeting' in Japanese)
is Stadtlander's new restaurant opening this fall in Singhampton, Ontario. He
will share the personal experience of literally creating this restaurant from
the ground up with his wife Nobuyo. Incorporating their own creative
inspiration and vision for a sustainable community, they even crafted their
own earthenware, furniture and fixtures. The Stadtlanders will also be
previewing their 2008 Vancouver Film Festival documentary titled, The Islands
Project throughout the day.
"Feast of Fields is a unique way for people to discover organic food
production by literally going directly to the source," says Daniel Gilbert,
Chair of Organic Advocates, the group responsible for organizing the annual
event. The renowned Chef-owner of Daniel's of Nobleton also notes, "Guests can
use all their senses to truly experience their food as never before while
getting unique access to the people that actually grow their food and prepare
their meals."
Beyond the immediate educational impact of Feast of Fields, each year a
significant donation is made to an ecological group or organization to promote
sustainable, organic agriculture. This year's recipient is the Farmer Chef
Intern Program at Everdale Organic Farm. Recent Stratford Chef School graduate
Mark Seiling has been selected to participate in the program to expand his
food skills and at the same time gain practical organic farming and marketing
knowledge. Past recipients have included: The Ecological Farmers Association,
The University of Guelph Organic Agriculture Program, York University and
Seeds of Diversity. For more information on the Farmer Chef Intern Program,
