FCM's Sustainable Communities Conference Highlights: Tuesday, February 8, 2011

VICTORIA, Feb. 8 /CNW/ - The Federation of Canadian Municipalities will host the first day of its 2011 Sustainable Communities Conference in Victoria, B.C. on Tuesday, Feb. 8.

The conference is Canada's premiere gathering of municipal officials working to make their communities more sustainable. Over 600 municipal leaders will be in attendance.

This is the first time the conference is being held outside of Ottawa. It is also the first time that the entire morning program will be webcast live.

Program highlights:

8:30-9:10 a.m. PST Opening ceremony Salon A/B and Live Webcast
9:15-10 a.m. PST Keynote address by Gil Peñalosa, executive director, 8-80 Cities Salon A/B and Live Webcast
10:15-11:45 a.m. PST West Coast Mayors Panel on Green Innovation Plenary (mayors of Victoria and Vancouver, B.C., and Seattle, Washington) Salon A/B and Live Webcast
3:30 - 5:00 p.m Sustainability and Poverty Reduction Through Social and Affordable Housing
Presented in partnership with BC Housing
Oak Bay
5:30-7:30 p.m. PST Sustainable Community Awards Reception and Ceremony
(winners will be announced in nine categories)
