McGuinty Government Supports Business Venture Competition
TORONTO, Jan. 21 /CNW/ - Ontario's entrepreneurs can win cash prizes -
and fast track their products to market - in a business venture competition
supported by Ontario's Ministry of Small Business and Entrepreneurship.
TiEQuest 2008 will connect the province's first-class entrepreneurs with
investors eager to take their products to market. The competition will enable
contestants to present their ideas to well-known venture capitalists. The
winners will receive cash prizes and services.
The deadline for entry is January 31, 2008. The winners will be announced
on April 9, 2008. For more information, visit www.tiequest.org.
"The McGuinty government is making it easier for our world-class
entrepreneurs and small businesses to succeed on the world stage," said
Minister of Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Harinder Takhar. "We are
proud to support TiEQuest in promoting entrepreneurial activity that
stimulates new ideas and collaboration."
The top prize of the competition has a $150,000 value and includes an
"Expression of Interest" for investment of up to $1,000,000.
"The goal of TiEQuest is to connect aspiring entrepreneurs with the
investment community that they might not otherwise have access to," said Hari
Venkatacharya, President of TiE Toronto. "TiEQuest provides them with the
tools to develop a promising business venture through networking with experts
in the industry."
The Ministry of Small Business and Entrepreneurship provided $24,000 to
help offset the costs of TiEQuest 2008.
"The Ontario government's commitment to TiEQuest underscores the
importance of fostering entrepreneurship through this competition," said
Small and medium sized businesses account for 99 per cent of all
businesses in the province of Ontario and generate $230 billion in economic
activity annually. These enterprises generate the majority of jobs in this
province and are hotbeds of innovation.
