MONTREAL, Aug. 20 /CNW Telbec/ - The family of Private Simon Longtin, who
died in Kandahar on 19 August 2007,woud like to release a public statement:
It is never easy for parents to lose one of their children. We are
devastated by the death of our Simon, who left us in dignity while proudly
serving his country with tremendous honor, amongst his brothers in arms in
Simon was a passionate and committed young man who loved life and people.
Always the joker, Simon loved to make people laugh and always paid attention
to the well being of others, loved ones and peers. He left for his mission at
peace with himself and his family. Proud member of the Royal 22e Régiment, he
was confident, serene and determined to help in this mission for which he
volunteered very early in his Canadian Forces career.
We would also like to thank the population for their good wishes and

    Simon's family.

The family of Private Longtin wishes to live through the period of
mourning in the privacy of their family. During these difficult times, they do
not wish to grant interviews and request that media refrain from approaching
the family.
Details concerning the return of Pte Longtin's remains and his funeral
will be published when confirmed.
