Family donation brings the latest diagnostic and therapeutic technology to the QEII

HALIFAX, Nov. 7 /CNW/ - Patients needing the latest in minimally invasive
interventional radiology procedures will benefit from the recent installation
of a Computerized Tomography (CT) Fluoroscopy Unit at the QEII Health Sciences
Centre. A gift of approximately $400,000 from the d'Eon-Langille family to the
QEII Foundation made the acquisition of the technology a reality for patients
and has expanded the scope of interventional radiology practice available in
Atlantic Canada's largest tertiary care facility.
The CT Fluoroscopy Unit is a tool that provides real-time CT imaging of a
patient, which allows interventional procedures to be performed in
significantly less time, with improved patient safety. Among its many
advantages, this latest technology enables interventional radiologists to
perform advanced therapeutic cancer treatment therapies, which are minimally
invasive ways to treat some forms of cancer.
The location where the CT Fluoroscopy Unit is housed has been named the
d'Eon-Langille Interventional Radiology (IR) Centre. "The impact of this gift
on patient care for the new IR Centre at the Victoria General site is
enormous", explains Dr. Charles Lo, Clinical Chief, Diagnostic Imaging, QEII
Health Sciences Centre. "Procedures will be performed in the IR suite, staffed
by critical care nurses and technologists trained in the care of patients
undergoing this treatment."
The d'Eon-Langille family gift was made through the QEII Foundation's
Working Miracles campaign. This four-year capital campaign raised
$43.5 million for health care programs, state-of-the-art medical equipment and
medical research.
"On behalf of the many patients who will benefit, we express our
gratitude to the d'Eon-Langille family for their generous support," expressed
Bill Bean, President & CEO, QEII Foundation. "Their gift will make a large
impact on patient care at the QEII Health Sciences Centre for generations to
