FACT CHECK: The true story of NDP and the environment

TORONTO, Sept. 14 /CNW/ - Today, Howard Hampton and the NDP unveiled a
pale watered down toxics reduction policy.
The McGuinty Liberals are going further. Our plan to Move Ontario Forward
      - Create a tough new toxics reduction law that requires companies
that emit toxic pollution to reduce their emissions
      - Work with Cancer Care Ontario and the Ontario Medical Association to
identify, target and reduce the number of cancer-causing agents
         released into our environment
      - Ban the cosmetic use of pesticides across the province

We also brought in the You Spill You Pay legislation that makes sure
those who pollute, pay for the clean-up and protect our vital natural
We brought in the Clean Water Act to protect Ontario's water supply at
the source. The NDP chose to vote against it.
Perhaps this is why the NDP have been met by questions about how "green"
their policies are:
"Green activists question NDP's brown opinions," (The Globe and Mail,
August 28, 2007).
"Ontario's NDP abandoning its environmental principles," (The Record, May
14, 2007).
"MPPs pass species-at-risk bill; Groups question green commitment of
opposition members opposed to protection law," (The Toronto Star, May 17,
While Howard Hampton talks about protecting our environment, his actions
speak louder than words. The McGuinty Liberals will continue to move forward
to protect our environment and the health of Ontarians.
