Entertainment One and Image Entertainment renew distribution deal through December 2012

Long term deal cover new releases and image 3,000 title library

Agreement covers canadian rights in all media

TORONTO, Dec. 18 /CNW Telbec/ - Image Entertainment and Entertainment One
subsidiaries Seville Pictures and Paradox Entertainment have reached an
exclusive agreement to renew and greatly expand their output deal providing E1
the Canadian rights to upcoming Image product in the areas of theatrical, home
entertainment, television and digital through 2012. The long-term agreement
also provides Seville the Canadian rights to Image's vast 3,000 title library
totaling more than 6,000 hours of film and television programs. The joint
announcement was made by Seville Co-President David Reckziegel and Paradox
Vice-President and General Manager, Jim Fotheringham, and Image Entertainment
COO David Borshell. E1 subsidiary Seville Pictures will handle theatrical,
television and digital distribution in Canada, while Paradox will continue to
handle the home video distribution.
The renewal and expansion of the deal builds on the strengths of both
companies and the success of their relationship thus far. The addition of
theatrical, television and digital rights to the existing home entertainment
agreement is a natural fit given Image's recent move into acquiring films for
all-right distribution. The overall deal marks another important step in E1's
disciplined strategy to build its distribution network and content library,
bringing the total to more than 3700 titles in Canada.
Under the new agreement, Seville will launch the first of Image's newly
acquired features including director Stuart Gordon's Toronto festival favorite
Stuck starring Mena Suvari and Stephen Rea and Re-Cycle, the new film from the
Pang brothers. Other titles on the upcoming slate include My Name is Bruce,
starring Bruce Campbell and a newly digitally remastered version of The Last
Emperor. Image titles handled by Paradox under the previous agreement include
Megadeth, Shark Week, John Pinette: I'm Starvin', Steven Wright: When the
Leaves Blow, Mythbusters Collection, and box office successes such as the
recent re-mastered version of Caligula Imperial Edition, Bruce Beresford's
classic Breaker Morant. Also included is the Criterion Collection, who are
dedicated to gathering the greatest films from around the world and publishing
them in editions that offer the highest technical quality and award-winning,
original supplements.
In addition to the filmed entertainment component, the agreement
encompasses Image's new music releases and proven music catalogue containing
approximately 250 titles.
Said Reckziegel, "This deal is another major milestone in building our
Canadian library and distribution infrastructure. The addition of these
theatrical, television and digital rights will allow us to expand our
distribution activities significantly in Canada."
Fotheringham added, "We are very pleased to renew our long-standing
association with Image Entertainment. We have been partners with Image for
over 10 years and are thrilled to be able to continue to represent their
important library in Canada as well as to offer their great selection of new
releases to Canadian retailers and consumers," stated Fotheringham. "Image is
entering an exciting phase of growth and we look forward to working with the
entire Image team over the next 5 years."
David Borshell, Image's Chief Operating Officer stated, "The signing of
this long-term distribution agreement with Entertainment One and its group of
companies represents a significant expansion of our overall Canadian
distribution efforts. Image continues to aggressively pursue a variety of
high-profile programming including feature films and we are all excited to
continue working with a group of people that have been dedicated to our mutual
success for many years."
