Energy-TV to award 'top picks' in the energy sector

CALGARY, Oct. 19 /CNW/ - An innovative awards program designed to
showcase the nation's energy industry on primetime television has been created
by Energy-TV, Alberta's weekly oil and gas newsmagazine format show. Energy-TV
highlights the people, the trends, the politics and the innovations in both
the petroleum industry and the alternative energy industry on Global TV. For
the first time ever, people from the oil and gas and alternative energy
sectors will be able to nominate and vote to select the Energy-TV Awards
winners through the Energy-TV web site at
Neil Chandran, Energy-TV executive producer, says "We are very excited to
feature the innovators in the energy sector in this first annual Energy-TV
Awards event. Voting has already been active and we look forward to hosting
this unique 'people's choice' exclusive awards evening." Nominations for the
Energy-TV Awards will close October 31 and voting ends November 2.
The winners will be given their awards at the exclusive red carpet
Energy-TV Awards event, hosted at Flames Central, in Calgary on November 23.
The entire evening will be filmed with the footage developed into a one-hour
prime time show that will be broadcast across Alberta on Global TV (with a
potential viewer audience of six million).
The Energy-TV Awards will be hosted by Chandran and the well known
Energy-TV anchor, Helena DeVries. Special industry guest presenters will also
attend this exclusive event along with many leaders from both the petroleum
and the alternative energy sectors.
Canada is the third-largest producer of natural gas and the
eighth-largest producer of crude oil in the world. The upstream sector is the
largest single private sector investor in Canada. In 2005, the petroleum
industry spent over $45 billion in their quest for oil and gas reserves.
The alternative energy sector includes wind power, biofuel, solar power,
wave power, geothermal and nuclear energy. Combined, these alternative
energies are expected to total three to four per cent of Canada's energy mix
in the future. With Canada's commitment to the Kyoto Accord, more capital is
being driven to further develop these greener energy sources. As a result,
expansion of wind power and biofuel development is providing unique investment
opportunities that are featured on Energy-TV's Alberta-wide industry edition
as well as on the nationally broadcast Energy-TV investment show - both on
Global TV.
Additionally, Energy-TV airs on ABC in Houston and Dallas with American
content. Watch the Energy-TV web site for more information on the American
Energy-TV Awards event being held at the Petroleum Club in Houston on March 1,
Sponsorship opportunities are available for the Calgary and Houston
Energy-TV Awards providing a unique vertical marketing opportunity. Sponsors
already include June Warren Publishing, TELUS Energy Sector, ATB Financial and
Canaccord Capital. A portion of each sponsorship from the Energy-TV Awards
will be donated to STARS air ambulance, PSAC's Education Fund and the Canadian
Petroleum Discovery Centre.
