EMS To Double Soil Treatment Capacity in the United Kingdom

Canadian-Developed Technology To Be Used In New Joint Venture Facility

BURLINGTON, ON, March 22 /CNW/ - Environmental Management Solutions Inc.
(TSX: EMS) today announced the approval of the Company's second soil treatment
facility (STF) in the United Kingdom to be built at Colnbrook, west of London.
The 1.5-hectare Colnbrook facility has received all necessary regulatory
permits to operate until 2010. Pending the discharge of planning conditions,
expected in late spring 2007, the Company will begin construction of the
facility which is expected to be operating by August of 2007. It will have an
annual capacity of 50,000 tonnes, the same level of throughput treatment
capacity as the Company's existing Risley facility outside Manchester in the
north-west of England.
The facilities are the only two STFs in the U.K. and are operated in
partnership with Biffa Plc, one of the country's leaders in waste management.
EMS, through its subsidiary Biogenie Site Remediation Ltd., is providing its
proprietary treatment technology and operating management. It will share
equally in the capital cost and income from Colnbrook as it has done for the
Risley STF since 2005. Biffa provides its market presence, regulatory
compliance expertise, site location, and placement options for the treated
The Colnbrook STF will treat contaminated soil derived from London and
South East England where the re-development market for housing and related
infrastructure is the largest in the U.K. The soil tends to be contaminated
with oily materials from the previous use of the origin site and regulators
require it to be dealt with before sites are redeveloped. Biogénie's
technology degrades the contaminants to bring the soil to acceptable levels
that allow it to be used as daily cover material within the landfill or as
restoration soil.
"Colnbrook is a proven partnership that will operate in the largest
regional market in the UK, presenting EMS with a unique opportunity to build
on its leadership position in a rapidly growing market for soil remediation in
Europe," said Tony Busseri, President and Chief Executive Officer of
Environmental Management Solutions. "This is an excellent example of
Canadian-developed expertise that is exportable to other parts of the world.
We are confident our investment in this facility will generate significant
value for our shareholders and provide outstanding benefits for our other
