Staples Canada announces top five finalists competing for
$50,000 computer lab

RICHMOND HILL, ON, Feb. 2 /CNW/ - Close to 300 schools from across the country entered the Staples Canada Recycle For Education Computer Lab contest, and the judging panel has chosen the top five finalists with the most eco-responsible practices. 

Publicly funded elementary schools and high schools were invited to write essays describing their eco-responsible practices for a chance to win a $50,000 computer lab for their school. "We had an overwhelming response and were impressed with the quality of the essays submitted," said Steve Matyas, president of Staples Canada. "It's great to read all the letters and learn more about what young people are doing to help preserve our environment."

Staples awarded the top five schools flip cameras to document and share their environmental practices with the rest of the country on Staples Canada's YouTube channel The winning school will be announced on February 16, 2011. 

The top five finalists (in alphabetical order):

  • Dover Bay Secondary School, Nanaimo, BC

  • Heritage Park Secondary School, Mission, BC

  • L'école secondaire Cardinal-Roy, Québec, QC

  • L'école secondaire publique Gisèle-Lalonde, Orleans, ON

  • W.C. Miller Collegiate, Altona, MB
