MONTREAL, Oct. 28 /CNW Telbec/ - The Kidney Foundation of Canada is proud
to announce that the 2008 Founder's Award will be presented to Dr. Marcel
Lebel, Nephrologist, at the closing Gala for the Founder's Award Campaign
under the Honorary Chairmanship of Tony Loffreda, C.P.A., Regional
Vice-President, Commercial Financial Services, Quebec West, RBC Royal Bank.
The Gala takes place at Le Windsor Ballrooms in Montreal on November 26, 2008.
Dr. Marcel Lebel is a prominent nephrology specialist in the field of
hypertension in Quebec. In fact, he was one of Quebec's first nephrologists to
carry on a dual career as a researcher and clinician. His career spans a
period of 35 years at the CHUQ's (Centre hospitalier universitaire de Québec)
Hôtel-Dieu de Québec, where he pursued his research ambitions by creating the
first hypertension and nephrology research lab in Québec City. He spent
several years working for The Kidney Foundation of Canada as a member of the
Board, as a scientific advisor, as an evaluator of numerous fellowship and
grant applications, and recently as a scientific mentor under the Kidney
Research Scientist Core Education and National Training (KRESCENT) program.
The Founder's Award Campaign is the Corporate Campaign of The Kidney
Foundation of Canada and was launched in 1991 to pay tribute to the
Foundation's Founding President, Mr. Arthur "Ike" Boidman. Since then,
prominent business and medical personalities have been honoured and have
received the Founder's Award. This year's Campaign Chairman, Mr. Luciano
D'Ignazio, CA, Partner at Schwartz Levitsky Feldman, is hopeful to surpass the
$850 000 mark raised in 2007.
