Don't get burned this Spring Break

Planning Ahead is Your Passport to Fun

MISSISSAUGA, ON, March 7 /CNW/ - One of the most popular times to travel
is during spring break, a time when thousands of Canadian families trade in
snow for sand and salted roadways for the soft waves of warm salt water
beaches. To ensure travellers make the most out of their spring vacation,
Banana Boat and itravel2000 offer these "burn-free" travel tips:

    1. Get to the airport early. It's a busy time to travel so be prepared
for line-ups. "The quality of your holiday experience begins from the
moment you leave home," says Jonathan Carroll, president of
itravel 2000. "Leave early. Avoid getting burned by missing your
flight. If you're travelling with little ones, bring along some
activities they can do to pass the time so things don't heat up while
        standing in queue."

    2. Bring the proper documentation. "Your vacation could be stopped at
customs if you neglect to bring all the documents you need," says
Carroll. "Don't let missing paperwork get between you and the beach."

    3. Be mindful of the sun. "A sunburn can ruin your hard earned vacation.
Be sure to pack a sunscreen that offers protection from both UVA and
UVB rays, with a sufficient range of SPF," says Michelle Domet,
associate brand manager for Banana Boat.

Over the last few years, consumer trends show a greater demand for
sunscreens with a higher SPF (sun protection factor). New this year,
Banana Boat is offering UltraMist Ultra 50 and UltraMist Sport 50.
"Enjoy the sun, but protect yourself," says Domet.

    4. When you "get your bags packed" be sure to include sun-protective
gear. Both Domet and Carroll agree, travellers should take along a
hat, sunglasses, a light, long-sleeved shirt and beach cover ups to
protect against the sun, especially during the peak hours of
        11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

    5. Watch what you eat. Many Canadians may be tempted to over-indulge in
hot, spicy foods, way more fresh fruit and poolside cocktails than
they are used to. "Have fun, but be kind to your stomach and avoid a
run in with heartburn - or worse," says Carroll.

    6. Invest in a room safe. "Avoid any risk by keeping your money and
important documents in a locked safe rather than on you during your
vacation," says Carroll. "Don't get burned by losing your cash,
        credit cards or identification."

Tens of Thousand Canadians get a jump on summer by heading south during
the spring break typically the week of March 12th to the 16th. Popular
destinations for March 2007 are Cancun, Dominican Republic and Cuba.
