The upcoming Cannington Dog Sled Race & Winter Carnival Feb. 21 & 22 drop
the races but the show is still a go!
CANNINGTON, ON, Feb. 20 /CNW/ - The welcome snow storms of this week
raised expectations that the 5th annual Cannington Dog Sled Races & Winter
Festival would come off on schedule but bare and icy patches on the race
trails told another story. In the interest of safety for the dogs and mushers,
the Festival Committee have had to take the racing competition out of this
weekend's event. The festival organizers, if disappointed, are still
encouraged that the array of activities will still provide a fabulous weekend
for all concerned.
"We will have a half mile track setup within the park and a number of
teams, including the Jamaican Dog Sled Team, will be in attendance
demonstrating the sport," says Ben Deith, the Chair of the Race Committee.
"This will give the kids and visitors a great opportunity for photo ops and to
see the dogs in action."
A quick list of the other activities at the Festival reveals that there's
still a lot of fun to be had in Cannington this weekend:
(*) 9 individual performers & storytellers & a unique native winter
encampment will fill the Heritage Village and stage with the culture and
traditions of the Métis and First Nations peoples of Canada;
(*) 6 musical acts will populate the Lakes of Muskoka Cottage Brewery Beer
Garden throughout the weekend along with a Comedy Night and dance Saturday
(*) a full Outdoor Market Place populated with a variety of product and
food vendors will tempt you with their tasty offerings;
(*) plus there will be dog sled rides, kick sledding, hay rides, Magoo the
Clown, a petting zoo, snowshoeing, ice sculpture competition and 10 crazy
winter games and activities to entertain the kid in all of us!
