Direct Energy announces changes in key leadership roles

    TORONTO, Aug. 8 /CNW/ - Direct Energy Chairman and CEO Deryk King today
announced changes to key positions within the company's North American
operations. Earlier this year, Direct Energy was reorganized from a regional
structure into four pan-North American lines of business; the leadership team
is now in place to lead the company in its future growth.

    Maura Clark has been named President of Commercial and Industrial Energy,
encompassing energy sales to medium and large sized businesses, government,
public institutions and national accounts. Formerly EVP, Strategy and Mergers
and Acquisitions at Direct Energy, Ms. Clark was responsible for driving the
company's strategic thinking as well as its mergers and acquisitions activity
across North America. Prior to joining the company in 2005, Ms. Clark was an
independent strategy and M&A Consultant providing advisory services to a
variety of energy companies. She was also previously a Managing Director of
Investment Banking at Goldman Sachs and EVP, Corporate Development and Chief
Financial Officer for Premcor Inc.

    Bill Cronin has been appointed President of Wholesale Energy. Formerly
President, Upstream and Energy Management, Mr. Cronin is responsible for
commodity procurement, natural gas production, power generation, midstream gas
(storage and transportation) and proprietary trading. Mr. Cronin, whose roles
at Direct Energy have included responsibility for the retail activities in the
Northern U.S. markets, brings extensive executive experience in his 23 years
in the commodity sector to the role.

    Robert Huggard is appointed President of Home and Business Services,
overseeing Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) sales and service,
water heaters, plumbing, electrical appliances and home improvements for
residential customers; HVAC, building automation, facility maintenance and
energy management consulting services for commercial, institutional and
industrial customers. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Huggard was President,
Canadian Operations and previously was EVP, Business Services. Also from
December 2002 to November 2006, Mr. Huggard was the CEO of The Consumers'
Waterheater Income Fund Administrative Agent. Mr. Huggard has an extensive 30
year career in the energy industry and prior to Direct Energy held senior
executive management positions with Enbridge Inc.

    Phillip W. Tonge has been named President of Mass Markets Energy,
responsible for sales of natural gas and electricity to residential and small
commercial customers. Mr. Tonge, formerly President, U.S. Operations, joined
Direct Energy in 2004 as Senior Vice President of the company's Texas
operations and President of CPL Retail Energy and WTU Retail Energy, has
served in executive roles with a number of companies throughout his 29 years
of experience, including AT&T and DuPont.
