DHL races into Montreal as trusted Official Logistics Partner of Formula 1™

  • DHL continues as the Official Logistics Partner of Formula 1™
  • Dedicated logistics services for the 2011 FIA Formula One World Championship™
  • Fast-lane equipment imports through global customs clearance operations

MONTREAL, June 10, 2011 /CNW/ - As fans gear up for the 2011 FORMULA 1™  CANADIAN GRAND PRIX at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal this weekend, the logistics experts are hard at work to ensure that all equipment - including cars, engines, TV equipment and fuel - is delivered safely and on time for the big event.

"We are proud to be the Official Logistics Partner for the world's biggest motorsport event, and welcome back the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal," said Andrew Williams, Vice President - Commercial, DHL Express Canada Ltd. "Formula 1™ needs a trusted partner who can deliver fast, flexible and reliable support and DHL is proud to take on this responsibility."

As the Official Logistics Partner of Formula 1™ DHL's starts long before the first race of the season and does not end when a new champion hoists his trophy. It is a year-round job. With its global customs clearance expertise, DHL simplifies the logistics of Formula 1™ by ensuring fast-lane import of racing cars as well as their replacement parts - engines, tires and spares. It also handles fuel requirements and additional freight, such as TV equipment, VIP tents, computer equipment, laptops as well as radio sets and headphones for communication purposes. The deliveries also include furnishings for the Formula One Paddock Club, which is the exclusive VIP hospitality for Formula 1™.

DHL has specialized units to coordinate the transport of cars, equipment and fuel to the Formula 1™ tracks around the world by air, sea and land - for both test sessions and GPs.

DHL also has a 24-hour service point at the racetrack. The on-site team offers round-the-clock service for urgent shipments, customs clearance as well as shipments of hazardous goods and temperature controlled items. The teams can utilize DHL's vast global network to pick up and deliver at any race circuit in the world.

In addition to providing logistics support, DHL also awards Formula 1™ drivers with the DHL Fastest Lap trophy - which recognizes the driver with the greatest number of fastest laps at the end of each season.

"Both the DHL and Formula 1™ teams share values and dedication necessary to successfully execute each race," said Donna Letterio, CEO of DHL Global Forwarding Canada. "It takes a combination of speed, precision and teamwork to achieve the fastest lap of a Grand Prix. These attributes are equally essential to DHL's logistics business."

Once the checkered flag is waved on Sunday and the Grand Prix completes its only North American stop of the 2011 season, DHL's logistics crew jumps back into action. The DHL motorsports team ensures that all freight gets on its way to Formula 1™ team headquarters or to the next Grand Prix event that gets underway June 24, the 2011 FORMULA 1™ GRAND PRIX OF EUROPE in Valencia, Spain.
