Daily Bread kicks off the Holiday Food Drive

Goal of 1 million pounds set to make up for fall drive's shortfall

TORONTO, Nov. 30 /CNW/ - Daily Bread Food Bank officially kicked off the
annual Holiday Food Drive today in the warehouse of their New Toronto Street
facility, urging Toronto's public to remember those who struggle with hunger
over this holiday season.
"This is an important food drive since our fall drive didn't meet its
goal," said Gail Nyberg, Daily Bread's executive director. "The holidays are a
particularly hard time for food bank clients and their children so we are
depending on the public's generosity to make sure people have enough to eat
through the winter and into the spring."

Daily Bread's research about hunger in the GTA reveals:

    - 905,543 people were served by a neighbourhood food bank in the GTA,
        last year
    - 34% of those clients were children
    - 18% of children went hungry at least once a week
    - 27% of households using food banks have at least one person working
    - Food bank use has increased by 81% since 1995 and by 1.3% since 2006
    - $6.61 is the amount the average food bank client has left per day for
expenses after paying rent and utilities

Supporting the fight against hunger during the holidays is easy.
