Daily Bread extends Spring Drive in a final push to reach goals

TORONTO, April 23 /CNW/ - With a goal of $250,000 and only $141,000 donated so far, Daily Bread has decided to extend the Spring Drive. The drive, which was to end on Tuesday, has been extended through to April 30th in the hopes that the financial goal can be reached with those extra days of giving added.

Food donations have been steady and Daily Bread has almost reached its goal of 250,000 pounds of food. Saturday and Monday over 400 volunteers will be in sorting food donations that have come in throughout the Spring Drive. Those donations will be sorted and packed to put on our trucks to be delivered out to almost 170 member agencies throughout Toronto. That's why financial donations are so vital; they allow us to purchase fresh food and buy food that we need but may not have enough of. More importantly, with the cost of gas rising, financial donations allow us to pay for the gas that puts our trucks on the road five days a week and up to ten hours a day. A donation of $100 means we can deliver 55,000 pounds of food but donations small or large mean the difference to thousands of families struggling with hunger and poverty in Toronto.

You can help make a difference in your community with a donation! Financial donations can be made securely, online at www.dailybread.ca or by calling 416-203-0050. Cheques can be mailed to Daily Bread Food Bank at 191 New Toronto Street, Toronto ON M8V 2E7.

Drop off nutritious, non-perishable food at any fire hall throughout the year or any local Loblaws, Loblaw Great Food, valu-mart, nofrills or Real Canadian Superstore until April 28th, as well as participating Metro grocery stores. Most needed food items include: baby formula and food; peanut butter; canned fruit or vegetables; canned fish or meat; dried pasta and tomato sauce; powdered, canned or tetra pak cartons of milk; macaroni and cheese; bags of rice; cans of lentils and beans; hearty soup or stew and bags of lentils.

Daily Bread Food Bank is fighting to end hunger in our communities.
