CUTA and OPTA Applaud Ontario's Transit Revolution of the GTA

TORONTO, June 15 /CNW/ - The Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA)
and the Ontario Public Transit Association (OPTA) are overwhelmed with the
Ontario government's move to fund new coordinated transit priorities in the
Greater Toronto area. "This is the boldest, most visionary development in the
history of the Greater Toronto Area and will transform the region into a
community where public transit makes a real difference," says CUTA President
and CEO Michael Roschlau.
Today, Ontario Premier McGuinty announced that the province would provide
exceptional funding to coordinate public transit in Hamilton and the Greater
Toronto area.
"This government's unprecedented investment in public transit in the GTA
will have a huge impact on improving traffic and in contributing to economic
growth," says OPTA CEO Béatrice Schmied. "This is a tremendous shot in the arm
for public transit and our Associations look forward to working with the
provincial government and with stakeholders to help make it all happen."
"Where there's a will there's a way, and this announcement makes it clear
that the provincial government has the will to make it happen." concludes

CUTA is the national association representing public transit systems,
suppliers to the industry, government agencies, individuals and related
organizations in Canada.
OPTA (formerly OCTA, the Ontario Community Transportation Association) is
a partnership of transit, business, government and non-profit agencies
