Irish Computer Society Selects Ronan Rooney for Significant Contributions
HERNDON, VA., September 27 /CNW/ - Curam Software, the leading provider
of Social Enterprise Management (SEM) software solutions, today announced that
its Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and co-founder, Ronan Rooney, was selected
by the Irish Computer Society (ICS) as an Information Technology Pioneer from
a list of distinguished nominees. Marking the 50th anniversary of the first
computer installation in Ireland, the ICS IT pioneer awards recognize five
individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the development of
information technology and to the evolution of Ireland's computing
infrastructure over the last five decades.
The ICS IT pioneer awards celebrate the achievements of individuals who
have demonstrated a passion for the development of information technology and
a commitment to Ireland as a base for computing initiatives. An expert judging
panel selected the winners and recognized them at an award ceremony in Dublin
on September 20, 2007.
"The ICS IT pioneer awards recognize significant contributions to
computing in Ireland over the last 50 years," said John Hearne, CEO and
co-founder, Curam Software, Ltd. "We are honored that ICS chose one of our own
for this award and we look forward to continually improving computing and the
quality of social services for the next 50 years."
Ronan Rooney co-founded Curam Software (then IT Design) in 1990. Rooney's
vision of developing a framework that would enable human and social services
agencies to better manage clients and cases became the basis for the Curam
Software Business Application Suite(TM). Rooney defined and established a new
class of software - social enterprise management - that has replaced legacy
social services applications around the world. As CTO, Rooney is responsible
for research and development, global marketing, and emerging business
solutions. He ensures that Curam Software continues to provide government
agencies with innovative, program-independent technology that enables them to
easily and efficiently upgrade older legacy systems.
Prior to Curam Software, Rooney managed client/server projects for large
corporate clients at Apple Computer. He spent 15 years in the Irish Department
of Social Welfare, Dublin, working as a case worker and supervisor before
moving to the IT department where he worked as a systems analyst and,
subsequently, as IT project manager. It was in this role that Rooney gained
extensive experience in the business and development of large-scale
transaction processing systems.
Other IT pioneer award winners include Gordon Clarke, Ireland's first
software professional; Joe Cunningham, co-founder of Aldiscon; Shemas Eivers,
co-founder of SMC and Client Solutions; and John Byrne, professor and emeritus
fellow at Trinity College Dublin.
