CUPE National Convention to be held in Toronto - October 15 - 19, 2007

OTTAWA, Oct. 5 /CNW Telbec/ - Thousands of working people will gather in
Toronto the week of October 15th to 19th to discuss, debate and vote on
policies that will be put into action by the Canadian Union of Public
Employees (CUPE) over the next 2 years.
"There has been an ideological shift in Canada, where services for the
public good are being sold off through public private partnerships or straight
out privatization," said CUPE National President Paul Moist. "We have been
hearing reports from all our sectors, whether it be municipal services or
healthcare, libraries or energy, social services or primary, secondary or post
secondary education. In almost all instances, there has been a manufactured
crisis created through chronic under funding and neglect. The public has a
right to those services - it is part of the public trust and, as service
providers, we insist on being able to deliver quality services in all
communities across Canada," added Moist.
