Culinary Team British Columbia win Gold - Place third in the world at Culinary Olympics

    ERFURT, Germany, Oct. 25 /CNW/ - Culinary Team British Columbia under the
patronage of the Canadian Culinary Federation and the British Columbia
Culinary Arts Foundation, has been awarded a Gold Medal at the Culinary
Olympics held this week in Erfurt, Germany. The Team placed 3rd overall out of
62 competing teams from around the world in the Regional Team Category. Only
six gold medals were awarded in total.
    Competing on the third day of competition, the Team prepared a full
display table of cold foods including canapés, appetizers, buffet platters,
vegetarian items, main courses, desserts and pastries. The theme of their
table display - "Alice in Wonderland"- drew accolades from the viewing public.
    Working under Manager, Dr. Jane Ruddick of J.R. Food Consultants,
Vancouver, the Team is made up of Team Captain Poyan Danesh (The Pear Tree
Restaurant, Burnaby), Raman Anand (The Sutton Place Hotel, Vancouver), Andrew
Dickenson (Simply Elegant Cuisine, Victoria) and Ryan Cain (The Marriott
Pinnacle Hotel, Vancouver). Fumiko Moreton (Terminal City Club, Vancouver) is
the Team's pastry chef.
    Also accompanying the Team were twelve support members from across the
Province who assisted with the many logistics associated with entering such a
prestigious international culinary competition.
    Bruno Marti, Chairman of the British Columbia Culinary Arts Foundation
and culinary coach of the Team, was delighted with the results of the British
Columbia chefs. He said, "We are very fortunate to have some of the best cooks
in the world here in our own Province. We have shown the world that British
Columbia has some tremendous culinary talent."
    The Team returns to Vancouver Today (October 25th)

    From October 17 - 20, Erfurt was the host to the greatest occasion that
the cooking fraternity has to offer. The trade fair INOGA forms a backdrop to
the world's most important cooking competition, the International Exhibition
of Culinary Art, IKA HOGA - the Culinary Olympics. Held every four years, this
competition attracts thousands of leading chefs from every continent who
gather to compete in a huge variety of culinary competitions.
