Nine Decades of Making Standards Work for People and Business
TORONTO, Jan. 21 /CNW/ - CSA Group, today officially launched its 90th
anniversary celebrations. CSA Group offices across Canada, the United States,
Asia and Europe will be joining in the festivities recognizing nine decades of
helping to improve public safety, the environment, the global economy and
quality of life.
"At CSA Group, what we do is all about life. For 90 years, CSA Group has
demonstrated vision, leadership, determination and passion for making
standards work for people and business in Canada and globally," says Julia
Hill, Chair of the Board, CSA Group. "As we celebrate the 90th anniversary and
remarkable achievements by members, employees, clients, and stakeholders, I am
confident that CSA Group is well-positioned to develop and apply innovative
solutions and new service offerings for decades ahead."
Originally established in 1919 as the Canadian Engineering Standards
Association (CESA), the organization was renamed the Canadian Standards
Association (CSA) in 1944 to better reflect the breadth of its activities.
Today, CSA Group has grown into an organization with three business divisions.
CSA has a portfolio of more than 3,000 standards, codes and related products
developed by more than 9,000 members. CSA Group's 60 offices are located
across North America, Europe and Asia, with 20,000 clients and 1,400
employees. The CSA International certification mark appears on more than one
billion products worldwide.
"On behalf of CSA Group's Executive Leadership Team, I offer our sincere
thanks and appreciation to members, employees, clients, stakeholders and the
Board of Directors who contributed to the outstanding growth and the overall
purpose of the organization," says Robert M. Griffin, President and CEO, CSA
Group. "CSA Group is determined to apply insight, innovation and creativity,
to fulfill the new vision of a better, safer, more sustainable world where
standards work for people and business."
To commemorate its 90th anniversary, CSA Group is planning a year of
events including a celebration today to acknowledge the importance of this
milestone, various employee events, and at CSA's Annual Conference & Committee
Week in Gatineau, Quebec from June 14 to 19.
The centrepiece of the anniversary year is the establishment of the
Canadian Standards Association 90th Anniversary Scholarship at George Brown
College in Toronto. As CSA's first standard was in steel railway bridge
construction, the scholarship, matched by the Government of Ontario, will be
in the college's Railway Conductor Program.
