Crossroads Partners with Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship

Changing the landscape of Christian Camping in Canada

BURLINGTON, ON, Feb. 23 /CNW/ - Crossroads Christian Communications Inc. (Crossroads) has announced it will entrust its Circle Square Ranch ministry to Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship (Inter-Varsity).  Inter-Varsity's well known Pioneer Camps have operated across Canada for more than 80 years.

Crossroads' three decades of children's camping will move forward strongly and continue as Circle Square Ranches, but under the leadership and direction of Inter-Varsity, effective April 1, 2011.  Although Crossroads will not continue to operate a national camping ministry, it remains committed to children's camping and to advancing the legacy of Circle Square Ranch.

The transfer of Circle Square Ranches to Inter-Varsity involves no financial compensation.  Crossroads considers this decision a matter of Christian stewardship that better positions the camps for the future while honouring the intentions of the many faithful donors to Circle Square Ranches over the years. It is an opportunity to help another Christian ministry expand within their specialty, enabling Crossroads to do the same.

"We have full confidence that Inter-Varsity will be wonderful stewards of the families, alumni, campers and ministry of Circle Square Ranches for the future," says Don Simmonds, Chairman and CEO of Crossroads.  "Through this partnership, the camps will grow and expand while Crossroads is enabled to bring greater impact to Christian Faith and Values media, including the development of new children's television programming as one of our priorities."

This strategic initiative recognizes the respective gifts and strengths of both organizations.  The Circle Square Ranches will be effectively used by Inter-Varsity to further its mission among young people at camp and on school campuses across Canada.  By adding five ranches to their national camp program Inter-Varsity will be able to achieve a higher level of excellence and ministry impact. The introduction of pooled resources, new product offerings, combined experience and leadership will significantly advance an already effective camping institution in Canada.

"We are delighted to accept Crossroads gift and bring these camps under our ministry umbrella," said Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship President Geri Rodman.  "We are enthusiastic not only to add these camps to our ministry, but to envision how the anticipated synergies of Circle Square Ranches and Pioneer Camps combined might increase our ministry reach and impact for generations to come."

Both organizations recognize the importance of reaching people for Christ when they are young - shaping them to follow Him for a lifetime.  For Inter-Varsity, the camp experience has always been a key part of their mission to transform the lives of young people for Christ as they grow socially, mentally, physically and spiritually.

"This decision of Crossroads and Inter-Varsity has value to the Christian community on multiple levels," says Brian Stiller, past president of Tyndale University College & Seminary. "Firstly, organizations that have common goals and means of ministry, in combining forces, demonstrate how stewardship can actually work and secondly, they create efficiencies. Both have shown an amazing capacity to see the bigger picture and focus on what they do best. That is a great story. Their common sense of mission and the employing of a long-term strategy provides a model that others may want to examine and consider. I know I speak for many in Canada who pray that as Crossroads and Inter-Varsity work through this transition together, they will be blessed with wisdom and humility as they seek a net gain for ministry and outreach. We pray for an expansion of both ministries for the glory of God."

The following Circle Square Ranches will be donated to Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship:  Halkirk, Alberta, Wolf Creek, Saskatchewan, Austin, Manitoba , Brantford, Ontario and Arden, Ontario.  The Sussex, New Brunswick and Manuels, Newfoundland Circle Square Ranches remain in a visioning phase and Crossroads intends to continue their operation for ministry purposes.

100 Huntley Street will broadcast the announcement on the Wednesday, February 23rd telecast.  The program will include David Mainse, Don Simmonds, Geri Rodman and Ron Mainse and can be viewed online by visiting following the telecast.
