TORONTO, Oct. 4 /CNW/ - As the Canadian market prepares for the arrival
of the highly anticipated second generation all new 2008 smart fortwo in
showrooms this November, the smart Division of Mercedes-Benz Canada is set to
kick off its smart Test Drive Tour beginning October 5th, 2007.
Mercedes-Benz Canada President and CEO, Marcus Breitschwerdt says, "The
first generation smart fortwo has been an outstanding success in Canada; we
have sold in excess of 10,000 fortwos since the launch of the brand three
years ago. Despite this remarkable accomplishment, we know there are still
consumers out there who are unaware of the brand or may not know much about
the smart fortwo. This Test Drive Tour road show will enable us to once again
showcase the smart brand and the all new smart fortwo's impressive technology,
its innovative leadership, its exciting performance and its proven safety
Traveling to 7 major cities across Canada, the tour will start in the
East with Montreal and Ottawa as the first two stops. It will then move on to
Toronto and, then head to Vancouver via Edmonton and Calgary to conclude in
Victoria on November 6th, 2007.
A 7-person team from the AMCI agency will be conducting the cross-Canada
tour on behalf of smart Canada.
smart Division Manager, Richard Trevisan adds, "The purpose of this test
drive program is to put consumers behind the wheel of the car so they can
experience first hand the fortwo's driving characteristics, its comfortable
interior and its serious commitment to safety and ecology. We are hosting
these test drives in easily accessible central locations where the smart
Canada team is eagerly looking forward to answering all types of questions
from Canadian consumers that will test drive the fortwo."
The next generation 2008 smart fortwo offers additional comfort and
agility and sets new standards in safety and ecology thanks to a host of
advances that complement a dynamic and more aggressive look. The tridion
safety cell, esp(R), brake assist, active safety systems, advanced seats with
integral seat belts, full-size driver and passenger airbags, side airbags and
head/thorax side airbags are some of the key safety features offered on the
second generation models.
The smart will continue to be manufactured in Hambach, France - an
energy-saving, eco-friendly production environment.
The traveling smart tour will move across the country in an 18 m
truck/trailer that houses interactive smart displays, five smart fortwos (four
for test drive purposes and one for static display), a cut-away tridion safety
cell, event signage, staging and registration tents.
In keeping with the ecological mindset promoted and supported by smart
Canada, the company will offset the emissions created from the production of
the tour. smart Canada is committed to ensuring that all their Road Show
activities will have a net-neutral carbon impact on the environment and it
will support renewable energy, energy efficiency and reforestation projects
that reduce and offset carbon dioxide emissions.
