Newest Addition to Handyscan 3D(TM) Line Offers Higher Resolution and
Accuracy for Inspection and Reverse Engineering Applications
LEVIS, CANADA, September 26 /CNW/ - Creaform (www.creaform3d.com), a
leader in the development and integration of 3D laser scan digital
technologies, announces the launch of the EXAscan(TM) self-positioning
handheld laser scanner. The latest addition to the successful Handyscan 3D(TM)
line, the cost-effective, portable EXAscan is ideal for detailed laser
scanning applications such as inspection and reverse-engineering that require
high resolution and accuracy.
Based on the same powerful technology as the REVscan(TM) handheld laser
scanner, the EXAscan provides a resolution approximately five times greater
and accuracy twice as high as previous models. The EXAscan is equipped with a
three high definition cameras to increase scanning resolution and data
acquisition accuracy, as well as a new automatic multi-resolution function
that enables the scanner to automatically set the optimum resolution level of
the data acquired based on the type of surface it is scanning.
The advanced features of the EXAscan make it ideal for scanning highly
detailed surfaces and small objects in the automotive, aerospace, multimedia,
arts and historical preservation and medicine fields.
"EXAscan builds on the solid platform Creaform has established with our
Handyscan 3D line, including our REVscan handheld scanner and our proprietary
VXScan 3-D rendering software," said Marco St-Pierre, General Manager,
Handyscan 3D. "EXAscan provides the increased resolution requested by our
customers performing inspection and other ultra-high accuracy scanning
The EXAscan is powered by VxScan(TM), Creaform's proprietary data
acquisition software used to support the Handyscan 3D laser scanners line. The
easy-to-use VxScan provides real-time 3D rendering visualization and offers
options such as surface optimization algorithms, meshing optimization and
The self-positioning and portable EXAscan does not require an additional
CMM arm or other external tracking devices, making it a cost-effective
solution for any detailed laser scanning application. The laser scanner also
gives the operator relative freedom of movement to scan objects of virtually
any size, shape or color. The lightweight EXAscan can also be carried in a
small case for easy transportation and maneuverability.
The EXAscan launch takes place at the 2007 Time Compression Technologies
rapid product development and rapid manufacturing event held in Coventry, UK,
on September 26-27.
