OTTAWA, Nov. 8 /CNW Telbec/ - The Cable Public Affairs Channel (CPAC)
will air The War Amps award-winning documentary Cliff Chadderton: Up Close and
Personal at 5 PM ET on Sunday November 11th.
The one-hour documentary has been aired on PBS in the United States and
won a Gold Award at the 2007 Worldfest-Houston International Film Festival in
Houston, Texas. It is based on an interview Mr. Chadderton conducted with
Veterans Affairs Canada for its Heroes Remember project.
Featuring interview highlights and both personal and archival footage,
the documentary, also available in book form, delves into his personal story -
his childhood, pre-war pursuits, and war years. He tells of life and death
events during the Normandy invasion, his "worst day" at a place called
Soulangy and the defining moment during the Battle for the Scheldt that cost
him his leg.
"He concentrates on the ugliness and horror that surrounds soldiers at
the point of a modern war. He does something seldom done in tales of war. He
names some of the people he saw die ugly deaths. His message is simple. Nobody
wants to do this, nor should they ever have to, but when it has to be done,
those who do it should be honoured - not questioned." - Dave Brown, The Ottawa
"This book and DVD give a fascinating view into your life and highlights
the contributions you have made to Canadian veterans and youth." - Her
Excellency Michaelle Jean, Governor General of Canada.
"Mon chapeau! Great documentary and book. Thanks. Your contribution to
Canadians has been and continues to be prodigious." - The Honourable John
Matheson, Chief Designer, New Canadian Flag (February 15, 1965)
"It's fascinating stuff, because it's raw. It's not edited." - Gary
Doyle, 570 News, Kitchener.
"Cliff Chadderton really does get up close and personal in this
publication... his honest writing about that experience is straightforward and
touching." - Susan Jones, St. Albert Gazette.
