TORONTO, Feb. 11 /CNW/ - The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is
presently investigating the circumstances of a collision on Saturday February
9, 2008 between a car and a Peel Regional Police Service (PRPS) police car on
PRPS advised the SIU that at 4:15 p.m. one of their officers was on
Highway 410 south of Clarke Blvd. The officer was in his police car on a
traffic point and was blocking the southbound lane while a tow truck removed
another vehicle. A car travelling south on Highway 410 struck the police car.
The car's front seat passenger as well as the police officer were transported
to hospital for treatment.
Two SIU investigators have been assigned to probe the circumstances of

The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates cases of serious injuries
(including allegations of sexual assault) and deaths involving the police.
Pursuant to section 113 of the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU is
mandated to consider whether a criminal offence has been committed by an
officer(s) in connection with the incident under investigation and, where
warranted by the evidence, to cause a criminal charge or charges to be laid
against the officer(s). The Director reports the results of investigations to
the Attorney General.
