Conquering new markets - Government of Canada grants $98,500 in funding to Aciers Robond Inc. to bring innovative product to U.S. market

MAGOG, QC, Jan. 19 /CNW Telbec/ - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of
State for Canada Economic Development, took the opportunity while visiting the
Estrie region to announce the awarding of $98,500 in repayable funding to the
firm Les Aciers Robond Inc. This contribution, granted through the export
assistance component of the Business and Regional Growth program, will enable
the manufacturing firm to launch a commercialization strategy over the coming
year to introduce a new product for the trucking industry to the American
"Canada Economic Development is proud to support companies that, like Les
Aciers Robond Inc., are investing in the research, development and manufacture
of products that offer a net competitive advantage. By finding new and better
ways to market their products, small and medium-sized enterprises can only
improve their chances of success. Aciers Robond Inc. is engaging in a process
that promises not only to foster its own growth, but also to help revitalize
the economy of a region whose manufacturing sector has suffered a particularly
difficult period," noted the Minister of State.

Les Aciers Robond Inc. is one of North America's leading manufacturers of
steel parts for the trucking industry and a world-wide supplier of truck wheel
spacers. Over the past decade, the firm has begun diversifying its activities,
developing an innovative locking fuel cap system for trucks known as the Fuel
Tank Lock (FTL). This fuel cap allows Aciers Robond to answer the growing
demand from truckers for better protection against fuel theft, particularly in
light of rising fuel prices.
"Les Aciers Robond Inc. hopes to raise its revenues by 28% and bolster
its U.S. sales by 60% within the next two years. This project will also help
lead to the creation of five new jobs and the consolidation of 23 other
existing positions. I am delighted to welcome this excellent piece of news for
the Estrie economy," the Minister of State concluded.

With a budget of $27 million over three years, the Export component of
Canada Economic Development's 2008-2011 Strategic Plan seeks to assist
Quebec's small and medium-sized enterprises in their efforts to increase
exports. The initiative is expected to generate some $108 million in
investments in the Quebec economy through financial leverage.
