Introduces New Premium Varietals to Canada
TORONTO, Oct. 10 /CNW/ - Cono Sur Winery, one of Chile's leading wine
producers renowned worldwide for its quality wines, environmentally-friendly
production and innovative products, has officially received CarbonNeutral(R)
delivery status on its global exports of all Cono Sur and Isla Negra wines.
The distinction enables the winery to carry the prestigious CarbonNeutral(R)
delivery status trademark on these products.
Through the neutralization of Cono Sur's CO2 emissions, the winery is
helping to prevent and reverse global warming. The CarbonNeutral(R) delivery
status means that CO2 emissions from shipping Cono Sur and Isla Negra wines
have been measured and balanced to net zero through Greenhouse Gas Emissions
reduction projects. For example, for every tonne of CO2 that Cono Sur Winery
produces in the transportation of its wines, it invests in one tonne to be
reduced by offset projects around the world. As a result, carbon emissions are
counterbalanced by carbon savings.
"In 1998, we started working with a clean action plan and a natural,
integrated management of our vineyards," says Adolfo Hurtado, General Manager,
Cono Sur Winery. "We then started working with organic viticulture. Today, the
big issue we face is climate change, and it's our duty to support the means to
reverse and prevent it."
In addition to leading the winery's clean action plan, Hurtado received
the distinction of being named Winemaker of the Year by Chile's most
prestigious wine guide Guia de Vinos de Chile 2006.
The CarbonNeutral Company, the world's foremost carbon and climate
consulting organization, has been leading the way in voluntary action on
climate change for the past decade. It is the leading brand mark and quality
standard for action on climate change.
