TORONTO, April 14 /CNW/ - Compass Group Canada is proud to announce its
participation in a program to provide and install high efficiency pre-rinse
spray valves, without charge, in 100 qualifying Compass-operated foodservice
facilities across Ontario. To qualify for the program, locations must have a
natural gas water heater and a pre-existing pre-rinse spray valve. This energy
efficiency program is offered by Union Gas Limited and Enbridge Gas
Distribution in their respective franchise areas, and JohnsonDiversey, the
provider of commercial cleaning and hygiene products for Compass. The program
to install the valves begins in April 2009.
Pre-rinse spray valves are one of the most cost effective energy-saving
devices available in foodservice operations today. The high-efficiency valves
being installed have proven to reduce the amount of natural gas used for
heating water and the total amount of water consumed in dishwashing processes.
Consequently, the valves cut water heating and water usage costs, while still
delivering high performance.
"Through this program, businesses are given a tool that will assist them
to reduce the energy used to heat water, which can result in a big payback
both financially and for the environment," said Keith Boulton, Director of
Energy Conservation, Union Gas. "Indeed, each new high-efficiency pre-rinse
spray valve can save up to 931 m(3) per year in natural gas consumption as
well as reduce water consumption by up to 182 m(3) per year(*), or the
equivalent of 91,000 two-litre bottles of water saved annually per valve!
These savings can result in an annual energy and water cost savings of up to
$700 per valve!"
"We are delighted to be participating in this program," says Laurie
Brager, Director of Sustainability, Compass Group Canada. "Achieving the water
and energy savings with a positive financial result in 100 locations is not
only a great 'win-win' for Compass and our valued clients, but also a
significant step to reduce our environmental impact."
In an effort to reinforce this important initiative, Compass will
continue to explore similar energy-saving opportunities with like-minded
partners and utility companies across the country.
