Community Forum on Families and HIV/AIDS

    TORONTO, Aug. 4 /CNW/ - Children, youth and families are set to take
centre stage at a community forum on HIV/AIDS. Family Front and Centre: The
Role of Families in Adapting to and Preventing HIV/AIDS will be co-hosted by
The Teresa Group, a Toronto-based agency that serves children and families
affected by HIV/AIDS, and the Ontario HIV Treatment Network. The day-long
program will explore the impact of HIV/AIDS on children, youth and families in
lectures and workshops. Delegates will discuss interventions that have been
successful in the United States in both preventing the spread of HIV and
supporting families affected by the epidemic, and examine whether they can be
applied in Canada. Speakers will include:

    Carl C. Bell, Community Mental Health Council of Chicago, University of

    Stan Read, HIV/AIDS Family Centered Care Program, Hospital for Sick

    Mary Jane Rotheram-Borus, Department of Psychiatry, University of
    California Los Angeles

    Wangari Tharao, Program and Research Manager, Women's Health in Women's

    The forum is a satellite event of the annual American Psychological
Association convention being held in Toronto August 6 to 9. It is presented by
the Ontario HIV Treatment Network, National Institute of Mental Health, and
American Psychological Association, in partnership with the Canadian
Institutes of Health Research: Institute of Infection and Immunity.
