MONTREAL, March 4 /CNW Telbec/ - On March 4th, 2008, Combi USA Inc.
("Combi") of Fort Mill, SC, announced a Safety Advisory to inform consumers
that certain Combi Infant Restraints could potentially become separated from
its base in the event of a moderate to severe collision.
Combi USA Inc. and Transport Canada recently conducted numerous
laboratory tests (in many cases these tests exceeded the requirements of the
current Canadian standards) to analyze the overall effectiveness of the Centre
car seats in moderate to severe collisions. This test data revealed that the
car seat could potentially become separated from its base under these
conditions. If there is separation, there could be an increased potential for
personal injury and/or death.
Please be assured that all Centre car seats have consistently met
existing government safety standards. However, because of the separation
during moderate to severe collisions, Combi is conducting a voluntary recall
campaign with the intent of providing car seats with enhanced protection under

This Safety Advisory affects the following Centre DX and Centre ST models
in Canada, sold either alone, or as part of a Cosmo Travel System,
manufactured for the Canadian market from August 1, 2006 through October 31,
2007, comprising of 536 seats in total: Model # 714650, 784850, 784850S,
781395, 789462, 981395, 991465, 998047
The model number and date of manufacture can be found on the label on the
back of the infant restraint. These seats were sold in Canada through mass
merchandisers, specialty retailers and department stores from September 2006
through March 2008.
ISIS Inc., will be mailing, to all known Combi infant restraint owners
with an affected seat manufactured between August 1, 2006 and October 31,
2007, instructions on how to obtain a free retrofit kit. Consumers who own but
have not registered their Combi infant restraints should call 1-800-667-8184
Monday-Friday between 8:30 AM & 5 PM EST or visit www.combi.ca, 24 hours a
day, to determine whether their Combi infant restraint may be affected. When
calling ISIS Inc., consumers should have the model number and date of
manufacture of the car seat readily available. In the meantime, Combi
recommends that consumers use their Combi infant restraint without the base
until the retrofit kit is installed. Please refer to your instruction manual
for proper installation without the base. These seats are designed for and
safe to use without the base. There is no need to return the affected seats to
