SAINT-JEAN-SUR-RICHELIEU, QC, Jan. 30 /CNW Telbec/ - Today at Saint-Jean
Garrison an official ceremony was held during which Colonel Daniel Genest took
command of 5 Area Support Group (5 ASG).
The ceremony was presided over by Brigadier-General Guy Laroche,
Commander of Land Force Quebec Area (LFQA) and Joint Task Force East (JTF
East). "Both on an operational and personal level, the past year has been a
challenging one for 5 ASG personnel, particularly as they coped with the
tragic death of their commander, Colonel Karen Ritchie. The professionalism
and sense of duty that 5 ASG members have demonstrated has been exemplary,"
said Brigadier-General Laroche.
Colonel Genest comes to 5 ASG from National Defence Headquarters (NDHQ),
where he was Director Military Capability Management, Chief Force Development,
NDHQ. "It is with tremendous pride that I take command of 5 ASG, which has
been known to be a strong team, proud, dedicated and committed to the mission,
since its inception ten years ago," said Colonel Genest. 5 ASG provides
continual support to expeditionary, domestic and institutional operations to
support the mandates of Joint Task Force East.
5 ASG is a formation made up of its headquarters in Montreal and more
than 60 sites. Among the most important sites are Montreal, Valcartier and
Saint-Jean Garrisons, the Quebec Citadel, the Farnham training centre and the
St-Hubert and St-Bruno sites. 5 ASG consists of some 3,700 Canadian Forces
members and civilian employees responsible for supporting 141 units and 33,000
