College of Registered Nurses of B.C. issues public safety alert

VANCOUVER, May 19 /CNW/ - In the interest of protecting the public, the College of Registered Nurses of B.C. (CRNBC) is notifying potential employers and the public that Jeraldin Galla Patungan of Surrey, B.C. is not and has never been a registered nurse in B.C. As such, she has never been authorized to work, practice or present herself as a registered nurse in B.C.

Patungan recently obtained employment as a registered nurse under false pretences. CRNBC is aware that she has since left that employer.

"CRNBC is required to have information for employers and others to confirm the registration status of registered nurses and nurse practitioners in B.C.," said Laurel Brunke, CRNBC CEO and Registrar. "This situation underscores how crucial it is that employers confirm with CRNBC first-hand, the registration status of a potential employee." Employers and members of the public can verify registration status at or by calling the CRNBC.

The College of Registered Nurses of B.C. is the regulatory body for 37,000 registered nurses, nurse practitioners and licensed graduate nurses in B.C.
