Collective Brands, Inc. announces plan to close the Robeez distribution centre in Burnaby, BC, as part of overall initiative to improve product distribution to its North American customers

    Robeez Headquarters to Remain in Vancouver Area

    BURNABY, BC, March 11 /CNW/ - Collective Brands, Inc., the parent company
of locally based Robeez, announced today that it will close its Robeez Burnaby
BC distribution centre later this year as part of an overall initiative to
improve its product distribution by consolidating its distribution centres to
leverage state-of-the-art systems and maximize product flow efficiency.
    Collective Brands said that to meet the capacity and technology systems
needs of the expanding Robeez brand, in September 2008 it intends to shift
distribution of Robeez(R) product to its Huntington, Ind. distribution centre,
and ultimately to its new Eastern Distribution Center currently under
construction in Brookville, Ohio.
    Approximately 40 Robeez associates are affected by this move. The company
plans to work closely with affected associates and local job resources and
training centres, as well as distribution centre management to transition
affected employees with severance packages and outplacement support.
    As well, the local Robeez team announced that by February 2009, Robeez
plans to consolidate its headquarters' offices into a new facility in the
Vancouver area.
