VANCOUVER, Aug. 15 /CNW/ - Coastal Contacts Inc. (TSX: COA) announced
today that it has filed a lawsuit against the College of Opticians of British
Columbia for defamation.
"Coastal Contacts strongly believes in the fundamental right of Canadian
consumers to choose where to buy their replacement contact lenses and will
vigorously defend such consumer rights ," stated Roger Hardy, Coastal
Contacts' President and CEO. "We take exception to the misleading comments
circulated by the College of Opticians of British Columbia in their attempts
to preserve a monopoly.
Having delivered more than 200 million pairs of replacement contact
lenses to our customers world wide, we can proudly say that we have never
received a report from a customer identifying any health issue of any kind
arising from the products we supplied. Consistent with this, we note that no

safety issues which they allege arose from the products we have supplied to
our customers."
Coastal Contacts sells more replacement contact lenses annually than any
other retailer in Canada and is one of the largest sellers of contact lenses
in the world, having served more than 1 million customers in 2007.
