CNW Group Expands Audience Reach for Clients' News

TORONTO, Aug. 23 /CNW/ - CNW Group today announced an enhancement to its
RSS Feed Offerings. Users will now be able to choose from a categorized list
of more than 450 RSS feeds from CNW Group's two websites, and This enhancement was developed as a result of feedback CNW
received from members of the media and other stakeholders.
"This round of enhancements to our RSS feeds is another milestone in a
series of planned online developments to watch for from CNW. Listening to what
members of the media and our online customers want, we've introduced a lot
more flexibility and choice to our news feeds, matching the news feed headings
to the categories requested by journalists and newsrooms," said
Melanie Kurzuk, Senior Vice-President, News & Information Technology Division,
CNW Group. The enhanced RSS feeds are broken down into subject, category, and
industry to make it easier for the media and general audiences to find and
subscribe to topics on their beat.
RSS Feeds work by bringing information directly to a user's computer,
rather than having the user return to a specific website in order to find out
if there is any new information. Users can access an RSS feed by way of an RSS
reader, such as the web-based Google Reader or the built-in RSS reader
included in Microsoft Outlook 2007. This method of viewing and reading news
and information online has grown steadily in popularity over the last few
years, with many mainstream news organizations adopting RSS as part of their
online presence.
Another recent development is the addition of a Technorati button to
complement other social media options (Digg, and Newsvine)
currently available to readers of online news at CNW Group's websites. These
buttons facilitate the integration of releases issued through CNW Group with
the online world of social media.
In the case of the recently added Technorati button, bloggers and other
media will be able to quickly and easily track blogosphere conversations about
a news release issued through CNW Group, helping to further bridge the gap
between traditional newswire services and social media.
"I'm excited that our leading social media search and discovery
technology can help provide context to some of the releases issued by
CNW Group, Canada's leader in direct-from-source news," said Derek Gordon,
VP Marketing, Technorati. Technorati currently tracks nearly 100 million blogs
and is considered an established authority in blog and social media indexing.
