OTTAWA, April 11 /CNW Telbec/ - Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME)
today welcomed RBC Royal Bank as a key supporter in its leading-edge
initiative, icosmo.ca - Innovative Canadian Oil Sands Manufacturing
The icosmo.ca Web site is the Canadian manufacturing industry's exclusive
version of an online match-making web portal, effectively linking companies
across Canada to opportunities in the development of the Alberta oil sands.
"As Canada's leading trade and industry association, we are proud to
welcome RBC to this nation-building initiative, to assist us in helping
Canadian companies forge partnerships in the oil sands supply chain," said
CME President and CEO Perrin Beatty.
The bid to increase oil sands production from one to three million
barrels per day in the next ten years is creating a voracious appetite for
labour, supplies and services. As a result, most Alberta companies are
experiencing skills and capacity shortages that are sending a ripple effect
throughout the entire supply chain. The demand for crucial components and
parts for fabricated steel and metal products is particularly strong. The
icosmo.ca initiative will help Alberta businesses solve their resource
problems, while at the same time enabling companies from coast to coast to tap
into more than $100 billion in oil sands development.
"RBC is pleased to support CME's icosmo.ca, an initiative that
demonstrates the power of new supply chain relationships," added Susan
Rossanos, national manager, Manufacturing and Supply Chain, RBC Royal Bank.
"We recognize the increasing importance of collaboration and networking in
building sustainable, world-class competitive supply chains for manufacturers
right here in Canada, and we view icosmo.ca as a great tool to achieve this."
The icosmo.ca portal, which was developed in consultation with industry
leaders and in conjunction with the federal, Alberta and Ontario governments,
is driven by powerful database technology that enables companies with common
interests to seek and find each other by linking seller capabilities with
