Closing of Broughton Road

MONTREAL, Arrondissement de Lachine, March 13 /CNW Telbec/ - This
morning, the city of Montréal-Ouest installed concrete blocks to prevent
vehicular access to Broughton Road at the corner of des Erables Street in the
Saint-Pierre district of the Lachine borough.
In order to protect the safety of our citizens and their right to
circulate freely, the Arrondissement de Lachine will apply for an injunction
demanding the removal of the barricade within the next few hours.
The Arrondissement de Lachine also wishes to obtain a permanent
injunction to forbid the erection of such street barricades which jeopardize
safety and good understanding between both communities.
"I am appealing to the residents of the area and their sense of
responsible citizenship. We are confident that the issue can be addressed
without resorting to a complete street closure. In the meantime, citizens can
rest assured that the Lachine borough council is taking all appropriate public
safety measures into consideration while developing a solution," says Claude
Dauphin, borough mayor of Lachine.
