MONTREAL, May 21 /CNW Telbec/ - Société du parc Jean-Drapeau presented
its first sustainable development policy, Choosing for the Future, at a news
conference this morning. This shift toward greater environmental
responsibility is consistent with its mission to protect, enhance, and develop
This comprehensive policy comprises six main principles that address the
economic, social and environmental concerns forming the core of any
sustainable development strategy. "Our policy is the result of a process that
began in 2007 as part of developing our Master Plan. As responsible managers,
we wanted to make this decisive shift so that the Parc develops harmoniously
and its historical and natural heritage continues to exist. This policy
provides a tool for making consistent, effective, and sustainable decisions,"
said Serge Rémillard, chairman of the board of Société du parc Jean-Drapeau.
Société du parc Jean-Drapeau is also tackling the greenhouse gas
emissions generated by everyday activities and special events by creating the
Fonds Oxygène. This Fund is aimed at ensuring that the Parc enjoys a healthy
and sustainable future by encouraging significant reductions in CO2 emissions
and thereby improving air quality. The initiatives financed by the Fund will
ensure the sustainable use of natural resources.
"We have asked all promoters who present events at Parc Jean-Drapeau to
mitigate their environmental impact by contributing to the Fonds Oxygène. In
addition, drivers will pay $1 for each vehicle parked in the Société's parking
spaces to help offset greenhouse gas emissions," added Mr. Rémillard.
Société du parc Jean-Drapeau has a mission to manage, develop, protect,
and program activities for Parc Jean-Drapeau, by presenting major recreational
and tourist events. For more details on the sustainable development strategy,
