Children's Aid Society of Toronto appoints new executive director

    Experienced Leader and Child Advocate Takes on New Role

    TORONTO, Oct. 29 /CNW/ - The Board of the Children's Aid Society of
Toronto is pleased to announce the appointment of David Rivard to the position
of Executive Director, effective January 11, 2008.
    "David is a proven leader in the child welfare sector and a strong
advocate for the rights of children. We are looking forward to working with
him to continue CAS of Toronto's strong track record of effective service to
vulnerable children and families in Toronto," said Lisa R. Lifshitz, President
of the Board of Directors.
    "We searched for a candidate who would build on the agency's existing
strengths of innovation and forging community partnerships to support children
and families. David's experience in organizational growth, and community
building, coupled with his child welfare leadership experience, make him an
excellent fit," said Stephen Lewis, Chair of the Search Committee and Past
    Rivard is currently Executive Director of Children's Aid Society of the
Districts of Sudbury and Manitoulin, a position he has held for the past seven
years. He was previously Executive Director of The Family Counselling Centre
of Sault Ste. Marie and District and has also worked with The Family Service
Bureau of Brantford and Brantford County, and the New Sudbury Community
Service Centre. Rivard holds an M.S.W. from Wilfrid Laurier University. He has
been an Adjunct Professor in Social Welfare and Social Work at a number of
Canadian and American Universities over a period of twenty years, teaching
courses on social policy; child abuse and neglect; and Canadian/International
Social Welfare.
    Rivard has authored/co-authored a number of publications, articles and
books on healthy personal and organizational growth and is regularly invited
to speak at conferences, seminars, workshops and symposiums. He has also
conducted research in the areas of poverty and divorce.

    The Children's Aid Society of Toronto is one of the largest child welfare
organizations in North America. It is an incorporated not-for-profit agency
governed by a volunteer board of directors and funded by the Province of
