Charities, Boardwalk Gaming Centre, and OLG rally to help Five Points Fire Victims

BARRIE, ON, Dec. 20 /CNW/ - Boardwalk Gaming Centre, located at 52
Bayfield Street, is home to 66 charities that rely on charitable bingo as a
major source of funding for their various causes. The centre was spared from
last week's devastating fire at Barrie's Five Points by a simple alleyway. The
charities are part of a new partnership in Electronic Bingo, along with
Boardwalk Gaming and Entertainment, and OLG (Ontario Lottery and Gaming
Corporation). The triumvirate has joined forces in a new fashion to help the
victims of the devastating fire. By sharing the cost, Boardwalk Gaming and OLG
have donated a 42" HDTV to be used as a raffle prize to raise funds for the
victims. Every dollar donated at the centre for the victims will get the donor
a ticket in the raffle for the HDTV. As well, the charities are donating funds
of their own to the cause. Even the City of Barrie has gotten into the spirit
by waiving the municipality fees and fast-tracking approval for the raffle
draw. The draw will be made on Saturday December 22, 2007 at 9:00 pm at which
time the group will present a cheque to the Salvation Army for the Fire
Victims Fund.
Tom Aikins is the coordinator for the 66 charities at Boardwalk Gaming
Centre and he hopes the efforts they are putting forward will raise three to
four thousand dollars. "We were so lucky to be spared from any damage in the
fire, and we want to show our sincere care for the victims who were not so
lucky. Losing everything you own in a fire is unthinkable - and even more so
at this time of year. Many of our charities will be there to help the victims
through the direct service they provide as a result of their fund-raising at
Boardwalk, but we wanted to do something extra as a group."
In addition to the raffle, Boardwalk will be hosting a free dinner for
victims of the fire on Saturday night. To purchase tickets in the raffle,
simply visit Boardwalk Gaming Centre at 52 Bayfield Street.

Boardwalk Gaming Centre Barrie is one of four electronic bingo centres
currently operating in Ontario and is operated in partnership with OLG, the
Barrie Bingo Sponsors Association Inc. and the City of Barrie. The eBingo
pilot project is designed to revitalize the charity bingo industry, which
supports thousands of grassroots not-for-profit organizations across Ontario.
