Champlain LHIN Appoints E-Health Chief Information Officer

    OTTAWA, Oct. 22 /CNW/ - Mr. Glenn Alexander has been appointed Chief
Information Officer (CIO) for the Champlain region, Dr. Robert Cushman, CEO of
the Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) announced today. The E-Health lead
will help develop a portable health record containing basic information that
ensures timely communication between emergency departments, laboratories and
    "E-Health is one of six strategic directions outlined in our Integrated
Health Service Plan. The importance of E-Health in an integrated health system
cannot be underestimated," says Dr. Cushman. "Mr. Alexander is an accomplished
information technology (IT) and business professional with extensive knowledge
in health, government and telecommunications. We are pleased to have him join
our team."
    Mr. Alexander led the implementation of a number of IT projects including
the Drug Programs Information Network (the first of its kind in Canada) and
the Public Health Information System in the Province of Manitoba. He was CIO
for the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority where he implemented the Integrated
Community Health Information System Strategic Plan.
    "I am excited about the prospect of working collaboratively to achieve
state-of-the art Information management in the Champlain region," says
Mr. Alexander. As the CIO for the region, Mr. Alexander will be responsible
for Champlain's E-Health Council and the further development of the region's
electronic health record. He will also take a lead on projects currently
underway with Ontario's E-health Program and Canada Health Infoway.

    The Champlain LHIN has a mandate to plan, coordinate and fund health
services for the Champlain region. The area includes the cities of Ottawa and
Cornwall, and stretches to Algonquin Park in the west and to Hawkesbury in the
