CGA-BC Announces 2011 Chair and Executive Committee

VANCOUVER, Jan. 1 /CNW/ - The Certified General Accountants Association of British Columbia (CGA-BC) is pleased to announce that Bruce Hurst, CFP, FCGA, has been elected Chair of the Association's Board of Governors for 2011. Mr. Hurst is a Director and Senior Shareholder with the Richmond public accounting firm of Reid Hurst Nagy Inc.

As Chair, Mr. Hurst will lead an Association that will celebrate two important milestones in 2011. First, this year marks its 60th anniversary, a testament to the long-standing influence CGAs have had in business, government and communities across the province. Second, in February CGA-BC is expected to welcome its 10,000th CGA into membership, further cementing its status as B.C.'s fastest-growing accounting designation.

Joining Mr. Hurst on the Association's Executive Committee are:

  • Cindy Choi, BAccS, CGA, who will serve as First Vice-Chair. She will also serve as Chair of the Finance Committee and Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee. Ms. Choi is a Manager with Chan & Company, Certified General Accountant in Victoria, and sits on the provincial government's Small Business Roundtable.

  • John Pankratz, BBA, FCGA, who will serve as Past-Chair and Treasurer. He will also serve as Chair of the Practice Review Committee. Mr. Pankratz is a Partner in the firm of Friesen Pankratz & Associates LLP in Abbotsford. He joined the Board in 2006.

  • Gordon Ruth, BA, FCGA, who is the Association's Chief Executive Officer and serves as Secretary of the Board of Governors. Mr. Ruth resides in Burnaby.

As the province's largest professional accounting association, CGA-BC represents more than 14,000 CGAs and students. Members work in industry, commerce, government and in public practice. The Association promotes the excellence of its members and advances the accounting profession through education, certification and the protection of the public interest.

CGA-BC leads the profession in the integration of ethics into its academic program, and has now introduced a rules and standards course for all new graduates of the CGA program to complement an ongoing ethics requirement for members.

The Association also offers a wide range of employment services and programs to its members, students and the business community. These services include, a job postings website for finance and accounting professionals, and the Partners in Employment Program (PEP), which recognizes organizations that provide an effective working and training environment for CGAs and CGA students.
