Celebrating success in a challenging year for Ontario's manufacturing sector

Expansion in automotive and nuclear industries nets Mississauga firm
    record year

MISSISSAUGA, ON, Oct. 10 /CNW/ - Promation Engineering Ltd. is
celebrating its best fiscal year ever thanks to expanded operations in the
automotive and nuclear industry. The specialty manufacturer and equipment
designer increased its Mississauga facility by 5,000 square feet and made a
significant capital investment in new machine tools. The company expects even
more expansion through 2009.
"By moving beyond our automotive roots into the nuclear industry, our
company has grown in a year that has been challenging for Ontario's
manufacturing sector," says Promation president Mark Zimny. "Nuclear is seeing
a global expansion as countries around the world seek a reliable source of
safe power with virtually no effect on climate change. Promation is
successfully riding this trend and our automotive business is simultaneously
growing as well."
The company of 75 employees moved into the nuclear industry in 2005 when
Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. contracted Promation to develop and manufacture
sophisticated robotic tooling to help refurbish its CANDU 6 reactors. The move
has also allowed Promation to enhance its already successful automotive
capacities since nuclear engineering requires a very high degree of precision.
Since then, the firm has been awarded contracts in countries around the world
including the U.S, Mexico, South Korea, Japan, Brazil, and South Africa.
"It's great to see how Ontario's nuclear industry is expanding to employ
people within the manufacturing sector," says Organization of CANDU Industries
president, Dr. Neil Alexander. "This growth represents new jobs, billions of
dollars in increased GDP and new opportunities for those already in the
manufacturing sector, and college and university graduates seeking their first
