Celebrate Apéritif à la Française at the Gourmet Food & Wine Expo

    TORONTO, June 5 /CNW Telbec/ - Tokyo, Dubai, Milan, Stockholm, Montreal,
Ottawa... Today 38 cities around the world celebrate Apéritif à la Française.
To mark this momentous occasion, cherished by all lovers of food and wine
culture, France has been chosen to be the theme country for the 2008 edition
of the Gourmet Food & Wine Expo, held November 20-23, 2008, at the Metro
Convention Centre.
    During the Expo, France will offer a unique voyage through the world of
wine and food, to more than 30,000 guests. In its premium Wines of France
environment, France will showcase the savoir-faire, modernity and diversity of
the different French wine regions, by offering food and wine, live French
entertainment, and by hosting an "Apéritif à la Française".

    What is Apéritif à la Française ?

    Despite its ancient roots, the Apéritif is still a part French tradition
today, as 90% of the French declare having an Apéritif - a shared food and/or
drink moment - at least once a week at home, or in a café or restaurant. A new
job, making new friend, a birth, an anniversary, a long day at work...
whatever the occasion is, the Apéritif allows you to celebrate life by
rediscovering the variety, simplicity, and most importantly, the accessibility
of French food and beverage products.
    For the last five years, the first Thursday of June marks the
international "Apéritif à la Française" event that has lured many, both in
France and abroad. While the French "apéritif" moment will be observed in
Canada in November in Toronto, both Montreal and Ottawa will celebrate this
festive occasion today, with an expected 1,500 visitors at the Science Centre
in the old port of Montreal, and with unique Apéritif culinary demonstrations
at the Cordon Bleu School in Ottawa by the chefs of the French Ambassador.
    Spontaneous or planned, at home or in a relaxed bar setting, whatever the
occasion, Apéritif can adapt to any situation and any country. Witness the
